Computer Science A Level

You will need a grade 6 in Computer Science, and a grade 6 in Maths.

This A Level develops understanding of computer systems, computational thinking, algorithms and programming. Students apply theory to real-world problem solving and complete an independent programming project.

The A Level Computer Science course will allow you to …

• Think creatively, innovatively, analytically, logically and critically
• Apply skills in and an understanding of computing (including programming) in a range of contexts to solve problems
• Delve into producing graphical user interfaces and object-orientated programming solutions

Through the creation of a programming project, you will have the opportunity to create a substantial piece of software using modern design methods and, guided by teachers, they will look to display their skills and talents.

Units Studied:

• Component 01: Computer Systems – processors, memory, storage, software, networks, databases, web technologies, data representation, legal and ethical issues.
• Component 02: Algorithms and Programming – computational thinking, problem solving, programming techniques, computational methods, and algorithms.
• Component 03: Programming Project (NEA) – design, develop, test and evaluate an original programming solution.

The A Level Computer Science qualification is suitable for anyone who is looking to develop an advanced understanding of all aspects of computer science and programming. You will get the opportunity to apply your programming skills to real-world situation and problems.
