A-Level Politics

Exam board – Edexcel

Entry requirements

You will need a grade 6 or above in a Humanities subject (History, Geography, or Ethics and Philosophy) and a grade 5 in English.

What will I learn on the course?

Throughout A-Level Politics, you will be studying about the Government and Politics of both the UK and the USA. For both countries, you will study elections, voting behaviour, political parties, and the role of individuals like the Prime Minister and the president. The course will help you to understand how and why political decisions are made both in the UK and throughout the wider world. The course is broken down into 3 exams:

  • Paper 1 – Politics of the UK, and Core Political Ideas (Conservatism, Liberalism, and Socialism).
  • Paper 2 – Government of the UK, and Non-Core Political Ideas (Feminism).
  • Paper 3 – Comparative Politics: Government and Politics of the USA.

How will I be assessed?

A-Level Politics is assessed fully through written exams at the end of the course. Each paper is equally weighted, so each Paper makes up 1/3rd of your A-Level Politics grade. You will be supported throughout the course with practice exam questions and tailored feedback.
